Sian Edwards appointed Head of Conducting at the Royal Academy of Music

The appointment of Sian Edwards as Head of Conducting at London’s prestigious Royal Academy of Music was announced yesterday. Sian Edwards has established herself over the last thirty years as one of Britain’s most versatile and wide-ranging conductors, on the concert platform, in the opera house and as a pioneer of many living composers. She was a pupil of the legendary Russian teacher Ilya Musin at the St Petersburg Conservatory and teaching has played an important role in her own professional life, most recently at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

Sian will continue to pursue her career as a working conductor and engagements in 2013/14 include a Prom with the Britten Sinfonia, the Russian National Orchestra, the Ensemble Modern and the Nagoya Philharmonic, as well as La Traviata at the Theater an der Wien and Thomas Adés’ The Tempest at the Frankfurt Opera.
