Opera Rara have released Rossini’s Semiramide conducted by Sir Mark Elder CH CBE

Following the stunning Proms performance in September 2016 of the complete Semiramide by the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment conducted by Sir Mark Elder, with Albina Shagimuratova in the title role, Opera Rara have today released the recording that was made in the weeks preceding the Prom. Reviewing the Proms performance, the Guardian wrote “Thrilling, every second of it“, and the Arts Desk described “an operatic aftershock of overwhelming force“.

On November 21 Sir Mark will conduct Puccini’s rarely performed early opera Le Villi with the London Philharmonic Orchestra in the Royal Festival Hall, having recorded the work the previous week for Opera Rara.
