Graham Clark 1941–2023

We are deeply saddened to announce the death, on July 6th, of Graham Clark – who we had the pleasure and privilege to represent for nearly fifty years. The scope of his career is almost unparalleled amongst other British artists of his generation: 122 performances at Bayreuth, 82 performances at The Met, plus ROH, ENO, Glyndebourne, Paris, La Scala, Staatsoper Berlin, Staatsoper Vienna, Amsterdam, Tokyo etc. He was a favourite of most of the great conductors and directors and was especially close to Daniel Barenboim ever since the Bayreuth RING with Kupfer in the early nineties in which he so memorably sang Loge in Das Rheingold and Mime in Siegfried – performances preserved on DVD.

He pursued his career throughout his seventies and his last major appearance was just pre-pandemic in the world premiere of Pascal Dusapin’s Macbeth Underworld at La Monnaie in Brussels in September 2019.

Graham was an irrepressible force of nature whose energy and generosity of sprit was unmatched and who will be hugely missed by his friends and admirers throughout the world.
