Erik Nielsen appointed Chief Conductor of Bilbao Symphony Orchestra

Erik Nielsen has been appointed Chief Conductor of the Bilbao Symphony Orchestra, with effect from September 2015. He conducted very successful subscriptions concerts with the orchestra last month, in a programme of Martinu, Elgar and Dvorak. He first worked with the orchestra in performances of Korngold’s Die Tote Stadt for the Bilbao Opera in spring 2012 and returned for a Mozart/Tchaikovsky programme in March 2014. He will conduct eight subscription programmes per season and the contract will initially run for three years.

This announcement follows his recent appointment as Music Director of the Theater Basel with effect from the 2016/17 season.
