Ryan Wigglesworth to make three Proms appearances as composer, conductor and pianist

In a remarkable display of his wide ranging musical activities, Ryan Wigglesworth is to make three appearances at the Proms this summer.

On August 27 in Prom 51 he will conduct the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment in a special staging of Glyndebourne’s new production of Die Zauberflöte, which opens in Glyndebourne under his direction on July 18th.

The following night, in Prom 52, he will conduct the Britten Sinfonia in a programme including the world premiere of his Piano Concerto, played by Marc-André Hamelin.

In the same programme, he will join Hamelin for a performance of Mozart’s Concerto in E flat for two pianos; on September 9, in a lunchtime Prom at Cadogan Hall, he will present the Knussen Chamber Orchestra (who gave their inaugural performance under his baton at the Aldeburgh Festival in June) in a programme including works by Knussen and Birtwistle and a new work by Freya Waley-Cohen.
