Ronald Samm and Richard Farnes triumph at Opera North

Otello is widely regarded as one of Verdi masterpieces, and it was done supreme justice by Opera North when it opened on 16 January.

Assuming the title role was Ronald Samm, taking on what is regarded as one of the most difficult tenor roles in the operatic repertoire. He was joined onstage by Ann Taylor as Emilia and Henry Waddington as Lodovico.

In the pit, Opera North Music Director Richard Farnes led his massed forces with verve.
