10.06.15Katarina Karnéus is to be presented with the Litteris et Artibus medal by H.M. The King of Sweden. The award was announced by the Royal Court on 6 June 2015. The Litteris et Artibus medal was established in 1853 by Crown Prince Carl (XV) and is awarded for outstanding artistic endeavour, primarily within the fields of music, dramatic performance and literature. Previous recipients of the medal include some of Sweden’s most prominent artists including Birgit Nilsson, Elisabeth Söderström, Nicolai Gedda and Nina Stemme.
Katarina Karnéus regards the award as a milestone in her career and comments:
“As an opera singer you have a desire to constantly develop professionally, which means you become dependent on your own opinions and those of your audiences and critics. You can be selective about reading reviews, but an acknowledgement like this is a milestone in an artist’s career, and is recognition of all the hours I’ve devoted to interpreting the works in which I’ve performed. This amazing acknowledgement really boosts my motivation to constantly improve as an artist.”
Katarina Karnéus is a member of the Göteborg Opera and has recently enjoyed great critical acclaim for her portrayal of the Woman in Schoenberg’s Erwartung and will return to Göteborg this autumn for the world premiere of Hans Gefor’s Notorious, based on Hitchcock’s film of the same title and also featuring Nina Stemme.
