Lothar Koenigs to make Royal Opera debut this month

Following his very successful performance of Moses und Aron at the Royal Opera House in July with Welsh National Opera, Lothar Koenigs is to work for the first time with the Royal Opera in performances of Ariadne auf Naxos on October 10, 13 and 16. It is a revival of the celebrated Christof Loy production, with Karita Mattila in the title role. Koenigs’ season has opened with Elektra in Zurich and following the ROH engagement, will continue with Hansel and Gretel and a symphonic concert (Bruckner 7) for La Monnaie in Brussels, a return to the Hallé Orchestra, Lohengrin for the Bavarian State Opera Munich and Moses und Aron for the Teatro Real Madrid. In February/March 2016 he will conduct Le nozze di Figaro as his final production as Music Director of Welsh National Opera, a post he will relinquish at the end of this season.
