Ivor Bolton receives high honour in Salzburg

On August 10th Ivor Bolton was presented with the Grosses Verdienstzeichen by the Prime Minister of the Land of Salzburg. This high honour was made in recognition of his many years of service to the City and Land of Salzburg on the occasion of his final concerts as Chief Conductor of the Salzburg Mozarteum Orchestra, which takes place during the Salzburg Festival on August 13th and 14th.

Ivor Bolton first worked with the orchestra at the Salzburg Festival in 2000, and has been Chief Conductor since 2004, since when he has appeared annual at the Salzburg Festival, as well as leading the orchestra during their regular season in Salzburg as well as on tour throughout the world. His many recordings with the orchestra include a cycle of Bruckner Symphonies. He will continue his association with the orchestra as Ehrendirigent, the first person to have held this title.

Already Music Director of the Teatro Real in Madrid, Ivor Bolton will take up the position of Music Director of the Basel Symphony Orchestra next month.
