Ryan Wigglesworth at the Proms, Aldeburgh and Edinburgh this summer

Ryan Wigglesworth has a busy summer festival schedule with two Proms and the Edinburgh Festival in his capacity as Chief Conductor of the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, and two concerts at the Aldeburgh Festival with the Knussen Chamber Orchestra, which he founded in 2019.

He will conduct Beethoven’s Symphony No 9 at the Proms on July 23 and will return to the Royal Albert Hall for the long awaited UK premiere of György Kurtag’s Beckett-based opera Endgame on August 17. Between these dates, he and the BBCSSO will present a concert for the Edinburgh International Festival in the Usher Hall on August 6 to explore works by some of today’s leading composers, including Hans Abrahamsen, Mark Anthony Turnage and Helen Grime.

During the Aldeburgh Festival in June, he will conduct the Knussen Chamber Orchestra, founded in memory of his close friend and colleague Oliver Knussen, in concerts at the Snape Maltings on June 14 (a programme of Mozart and Elliott Carter) and June 21 (featuring the world premiere of his own Vignetes de Jules Renard, with baritone Roderick Williams).
