Andrew Gourlay appointed Principal Guest Conductor of Orquesta Sinfónica de Castilla y León in Valladolid

The Orquesta Sinfónica de Castilla y León, based in the beautiful new Auditorio Miguel Delibes in Valladolid, has announced the appointment of Andrew Gourlay as Principal Guest Conductor, with effect from the 2014/15 season, in succession to Vasily Petrenko. Andrew Gourlay took first prize in the prestigious Cadaqués International Conducting Competition in 2010, since when he has worked with most of Spain’s leading orchestras. He is delighted to have this opportunity to consolidate his relationship with one of the most forward-looking ensembles in the country. Repertoire in his first season will include Bartok’s Concerto for Orchestra, Shostakovich’s 12th Symphony and Britten’s Sinfonia da Requiem.

On June 18th Andrew Gourlay will conduct the UK premiere of Francesconi’s Quartett for the Royal Opera in the Linbury Theatre.
